How digital SAT scoring works

The digital SAT has two scored sections: Reading & Writing (54 questions) and Math (44 questions). Each section is scored on a 200-800 scale, giving you a total score between 400 and 1600.

Your raw score is the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so you should always answer every question. The College Board then converts your raw score to a scaled score using a process called equating, which adjusts for slight differences in difficulty between test forms.

The digital SAT uses adaptive testing: each section has two modules, and the difficulty of your second module depends on how you perform on the first. This means the raw-to-scaled conversion is not a simple linear formula. The calculator above uses a representative scoring curve, but your actual score may differ by 10-30 points.
